Compton Jr. Posse (CJP), started by Mayisha Akbar, celebrates their thirtieth anniversary this year. CJP was created to inspire inner-city youth by providing a year round equestrian program. Their aim is to encourage children to reach their personal, academic and career goals by offering a powerful alternative to the lure of gang and drug culture. The CJP has helped three generations of children to get into college, the military and to become business owners. CJP’s award winning program has given inner city kids a framework for success by teaming up with horses and highly skilled coaches such as Olympic Gold Medalist, Will Simpson. By exposing the kids to an equestrian lifestyle, they learn to develop responsibility, discipline and build self-esteem. This important program helps to nurture Compton’s youth to become our leaders of tomorrow.

In November of 2018 Mayisha has retired and passed the torch onto new founders Jamie Vance and Randell Hook, Compton Jr Equestrians
